STG Electric Receives Excellence in Construction Award

“The project was challenging and exciting,” said Jake Jones, who managed the project for STG. “Our team was honored to be part of it.”

Challenges included penetrating 10-inch-thick concrete slab floors and ceilings to make openings for wiring. Workers were also faced with the challenge of working in occupied space, as several offices, eateries, and other businesses were operating within the complex. The project team had to devise a carefully crafted schedule to avoid disturbing existing tenants.

In addition, many ceilings throughout the structure were designed to remain unfinished to pay homage to Goodrich’s industrial history. STG had to ensure everything was painted and installed in an attractive way to achieve the desired outcome.

“Right from the beginning, we were committed to doing whatever it took to complete the project well and on time,” Jones said. “We purchased specialty tools and made painstaking efforts to ensure we didn’t disrupt the historical integrity of the building, as well as the operations of existing tenants.”

Another noteworthy piece of the project involved the installation of two JuiceBox electric vehicle chargers in the basement garage, said STG Business Development Manager Frank McMillen.

“Our team is well-versed in the installation of electric vehicle charging stations,” McMillen said. “We provided training to the tenant management team on how to program and constantly monitor each charger. We hope to install more of these chargers at The Goodrich in the future.”

Through the Excellence in Construction Awards, the ABC Northern Ohio Chapter recognizes outstanding projects in the region each year. The Associated Builders and Contractors is a national construction industry trade association representing more than 21,000 members.
